    G body 8.5 or ford 9 inch

Quick performance has a reasonably prices ford 9" rear brake kit, about $320+shipping the last I checked, should come with rotors, calipers and mounting brackets.

Does your 9" have brakes now, if so, are they disc, if so, you can have the rotors and axles drilled to 4.75X5 or what ever you want by a local machine shop in your area and save some money over buying new axles.

    G body 8.5 or ford 9 inch

You're correct, however the rear end setup wasn't the deciding factor for that, I originally put side dumps on this car in the late 90's before I ever started thinking about what it's become today, but having 3.5" exhaust makes that decision even easier...

Sorry there is no write up on what I did, I built a 3-Link geometry that included a watts link for centering, It was a total one off setup from reading various ideas on rear suspension from several different forums that involved lots of fabrication, the end result, the car drives fantastic.

    Steering geometry & parts issues

Mine is a 97 Dodge Dakota rack, I welded some 1.5" .375 wall DOM tubing through the engine cradle for a solid mounting point, you can use the GM power steering pump no problem.. roughly 400 bucks in parts including end links and u-joints for the steering column.

    G body 8.5 or ford 9 inch

I don't blame anyone wanting to put a ford 9" under their car, they are rock solid, I actually was so close to buying that ford 9" from that seller 4 years ago, the UPS driver was waiting for me to hit the (BUY IT NOW) button, I just couldn't eat that bullet and decided to go a different...

I went with a 2001 Ford Explorer 8.8, disc brakes, 3.25" tubes, 31 spline shafts, 4.10 locker, I paid $125 for it from a yard in KC, mounting plate width is 59.5", for what I was doing it fit, was cheap and can handle way more HP than most people would ever throw at it.. You can pick them up...

    Frame prep

I totally agree with being out in the weather, extreme temp changes, constant sun, rain, use something better suited for that (my primer is a 2k epoxy primer). I do liked the hammered look and my cutlass only lives in good weather (my garage). If it didn't I would have gone a different...

    Frame prep

After cleaning frame to bare metal then priming, I used Rust-oleum Hammered finish Black which looks grey, once it fully dried (about a month later) it is very hard and durable, for something that came out of a rustoleum can I was surprised.
