What did you buy for your G body today? [2021]

I wish it was that cheap to fix. By the time this car is done with me, it will be new again. 🤑

What did you buy for your G body today? [2021]

Rebuilt the suspension system last year, then the coolant system starts leaking. Rebuilt cooling system last week, then the steering gear box starts leaking. Guess what I bought today?

    OEM radiator question

Original radiator does have a petcock drain at the passenger side bottom. I had mine recored, so I can not offer you an exact fit replacement. If you want to hold your car's value, I would suggest rebuilding the original.

    Cluster repair part two

I have an oil gauge that maxes out after engine warms up. Dont know why it does that but I verified oil pressure with a manual gauge to be sure. Oil pressure is fine so the gauge or board must be faulty. Let me know if you find a fix.

    442 Eprom issue

Well then, I am more confused than ever. But, whats the worst case senario here? I may have to get a new ecm? Or, possibly trash the whole ccc system and go with oldschool vacuum assist distributor, etc? The bottom line is how much will it cost to fix versus how much I pay for the car?

    442 Eprom issue

As I said before, it seems too operate as if there is nothing wrong. I do not want to dig it out and look at it since it is not my car, but I doubt it was installed backward given how well the car performs. Im guessing an aftermarket chip was put in at some point. If what you said is true, the...

    442 Eprom issue

I test drove it for 10 miles and mor on city, county, and interstate roads and ran without a hiccup. The code 51 worried me because I have never ran into that code before. Thanks for the advice. I will keep it in mind.

    442 Eprom issue

Seller cant tell me much on original parts or not. He says he didnt replace it since he has had it. Hes offering $500 off due to the code. Sounds like if I change the eprom out, then the major culprit for this code is removed. Is there a chance of complete shutdown if the car is driven before...

    442 Eprom issue

So, I am looking at a car for sale. I ran the obd scan and it came up with code 51. But, it ran fine down the road. I cleared the code, but it came up again. Code 51 is an eprom issue, but how could it run fine with an eprom issue? Not sure if this is a major issue or not. Has anyone ran into...

    shifter cable

I show GM part number 357746. But, when I look it up it says it's for a 77-82 Corvette. They may interchange, but I'm unsure. Here's a site that has it https://shiftworks.com/products/29-shift-cable-for-corvette

    Heater hose clamps

If you are looking to stay original down to the bolts and nuts, the original clamps were the spring type clamps. But, they often had leakage issues over time, and were replaced by a worm gear style clamp. As to the original manufacturer, you would have to find an original, unreplaced clamp and...

    O ring question

O-rings come with the lines of you order as delco parts. They are available at almost any reputable parts store. Just give them your cars information and specify that you need the O-rings for the high pressure steering lines. Or, just replace the lines too. They run $8-$14 a piece for the...

To RTV or not to RTV

Goop it. High temp permatex is the best way to go on two piece oil pan gaskets.

    Power chip

Your best option is to look under the steering wheel for the diagnostic port. If it has a diagnostic port, it at least had an ECM at one time. If it did have one, it obviously doesn't now. The "check engine" light would remain on at all times if it was removed and the vehicle was not...

    Power chip

That's the only location that I have found them. Unless it was removed prior to your ownership, but that would cause other problems as well.

    Power chip

Passenger side. Did you check that side? Chip will be inside a metal box behind the kick plate, at least for 8 cylinder cars.

    How do I know it's a 383

Thanks for the tips. I'll look for all of those items. If possible, I'll get it on the road and see how she performs.
