As jl said, there is nothing wrong with notching the frame. You just have to make sure you put the strength back in by welding a new piece of metal in there to reinforce where you cut. My buddy has TPI off of a 305 on his 327 in a ‘68 Camaro and it runs well. Not a radical engine, just a cruiser with a little lope. My 355 in the El Camino produces good low and mid range power. The thing you have to watch on the cam for TPI is the lobe separation angle.

In my ‘83 wagon the firewall has been completely replaced, so I will be running Vintage Air or the like in that too. The old factory box is long gone for both vehicles.
