I never saw a stock GN run in the 12's. Back in 1987 my brother in law bought a 1986 GN. We took it to Lapeer drag way here in Michigan. He also read all of the hype about how fast a "stock GN " was supposed to be and thought he was going to blow my doors off with his "12 second" GN. He ran a...
What a beautiful 2+2. I like the colors. Everyone keeps trying to have me do an LS on my 2+2 but I have always loved Pontiac V-8s so I am building a.030 over 455 with a 4.250" stroke forged crank with Edelbrock RPM heads. I can't wait to have the engine done. So many plans so little money.
Yes everyone was trying to have me build an LS engine but everyone is doing that. I always remember the best times of my younger days were with a Pontiac powered car. So that is why I am doing it. There are not a lot of these 2+2 's around so it should be a little more unique. I would like to...
I am glad to see this thread. I am building a a.030 over 455 with a Scat 4.25" forged crank, Edelbrock round port heads and RPM intake and a Crower hydraulic roller cam. I have a Turbo 400 and a Ford 9" axle. All of this is going into a '86 Grand Prix 2+2. Once the engine is done late spring I...
ZZ4 is a very good cam. I had a home built ZZ4 in my 86 Grand Prix. I had a 700R4 and a 3.73 posi and I drove the car everyday getting 16 mpg around town and just under 21 mpg on the highway. It ran the electronic Qjet and a set of headers and my best time at Milan Dragway was a 13.40 @102.88...
I agree, a properly functioning electronic carb is better than the older carb. Putting in some richer secondary metering rods will make more difference. When you are in the secondarys you are in open loop anyway.Look into a chip for the computer with better spark curve. A better breathing...
I am doing the same for my 1986 2+2. I stripped the block down today so I can get the block cleaned. I have a 1974 455 4 barrel that I am going to rebuild.
I just got a 1974 Pontiac 455 4 barrel motor from a friend of mine. I am going to put it into my 1986 Grand Prix 2+2. I am going to start taking the motor apart as it needs to be refreshed. I am taking out the stock 305 as it is partially apart and has not run since 1996.
I used a Hooker cat back exhaust on my Grand Prix but I found a Monte SS head pipe and converter in a boneyard. I think the GN had the same outlet on the converter. The olds flange is a 2 bolt with a ball socket while the Monte and GN have a larger oval 4 bolt flange.
My previous 1986 Grand Prix had a 1994 350 from a Cadillac Fleetwood ( same as Caprice) with 1896-1991 Corvette alum. heads, ZZ3 cam, Edelbrock 3701 intake and the stock electronic carb and distributor. I had a 350 H.O. prom from the Camaro ZZ3 engine swap kit that worked great. These 350's had...
my last Grand Prix(86 LE) had monroe formula gp shocks. They were great but they are no longer made. I was considering edelbrocks for my new to me 2+2 but they seem hard to find. I like the edelbrocks, I have had them on some of my previous cars and really liked them.
I don't think so. I it has been open for quite some time. I have a line on a very low mileage 5.3 LS and am thinking about doing this conversion. I am going to keep the outside of the car original looking but with a different drive train.
Yes the rest of the car is in very good shape. The seller had another nose that he gave me. The interior is in excellent shape and the body is in pretty good shape just some fading of the paint. Someone started taking the motor apart years ago so it has been open for a very long time.
