1985 Cutlass Original 307 oil dipstick

I've never seen a left side Olds dipstick. I've only seen them in the front. Ya learn something new every day.

    Bad radio reception, rpm "whine"??

Did you install the new equipment, or did you have it done? I think you're spot on with the grounding guess. This was a common problem in the car audio world, they used to refer to it as alternator whine. The fix was always improving existing grounds, and/or adding an additional ground wire...

    Floor pan DIY or not?

Great info, thanks for all that. My outer rockers are solid, the weld between inner and outer looks good, with it looking a little sketchy at the front, but nothing I'm concerned with, even at my skill level- or in this case, lack thereof. I just have to get underneath to take a look at the...

    Floor pan DIY or not?

You guys have all done a great job convincing me to do this. I've notified my better half, and we'll be pulling the engine and trans next spring, and the body is coming off right after. I'm already into the bodywork further than I've ever gone on a vehicle, which is a bit of a challenge, so it...

    Floor pan DIY or not?

Thats a nice confidence booster. I appreciate it. I knew I should pull the body, I was under the impression a lift was needed, which is how I've always seen it done. The tank is already coming off due to bad gas, the lines are all getting replaced, and I had planned to pull the entire front clip...

    Floor pan DIY or not?

I was completely opposite. I thought the feed was too slow, so I turned it up. I ran the high current setting, and when that failed, I kept thinking my technique was to blame, either going too slow or too fast. It's like I ask the misses, do you want a quickie, or the full 2 minutes? I'm...

    De-chroming?

I recently read that some of the strongest drain cleaners can be used, I plan to try this on my bumpers when the time comes. Just keep vinegar around to neutralize it, just in case of spills.

    Floor pan DIY or not?

NY, and I see you are too I'm just east of Buffalo. Budget and vehicle availability are still limitations for us. We picked it up for $400, at that price I'm not worried about floors as much. I can't remember the last time I saw a Cutlass wagon, we definitely plan to keep it in the family.

    Floor pan DIY or not?

The floor is the worst of it so far. It's difficult finding a decent project here that doesn't cost and arm and a leg. The salt in the winter here kills cars, and jacks up the prices. The frame is solid in all the normal G body rot locations. I just have to take a closer look at the rest of the...

    Hood adjustments

It's a PITA, but I've always just slightly loosened the hood bolts, and had a helper nearby to wiggle it and get it situated. It might help to remove the latch from the hood, but leave the spring on, so you can close the hood for test fitting, without having to go and pop it again. Having a...

    Floor pan DIY or not?

A frame off is likely outside outside of the equipment I have available, and definitely outside of the help I have available. Me, myself, and I. My girlfriend pitches in when she can. If there was a frame off, I'll have to pay to have it done. I'm guessing that'll run well outside of the...

    Floor pan DIY or not?

I was hoping going through the top would work. I've seen it done on roadkill, and it looks much easier, especially not having a lift here. I appreciate the advice, the first time doing a project is always a little daunting. I'll take a look at the rest of the mounts today. The car was sitting...

    Floor pan DIY or not?

Our Cutlass wagon needs floor pans. Front and rear on both sides are pretty much shot, trans tunnel is good, so it looks like doing the complete left and right pans might be the best option. Obviously DIY is cheaper, but how difficult of a project is this going to be? I'm a quick learner, I've...

    85 Regal Start Issues

The first things that I'd do would be replace the fuel filter. If it's still giving you problems, the carb likely needs a rebuild as others stated. Sometimes you can get by with a partial disassembly, some carb cleaner and some compressed air, but a rebuild would be beneficial in the long run.

What did you do to your G-Body today? [2011-2018]

Pulled all the tailgate trim, stripped the paint, started sanding and prepping the left quarter for primer.

Once again for the second time

Thanks The girlfriend and I have been really slacking on this. We were at a dead stop for years not knowing what direction we wanted to go with it. The goal will be a nice street cruiser with a real nasty temper on the strip.

Buying a new wagon, need trim

I'm pretty sure the body lines on the Olds wagon share the same lines as the 4 door Cutlass of the same year. They share the same front end, and same fenders without side markers. Im not sure how far off they are from the Malibu, but I can take measurements if needed. I've got an 81 Cutlass...

Once again for the second time

Somewhat new, I posted a previous intro but never ended up using the account. We've started dismantling the Cutlass wagon, and in searching for trim removal information, this site popped up a few times so I figured I'd say hi, again. Here's the original intro with a few before pics, just to...
