I'm getting very close to starting her up finally. I just need a radiator hose, a belt and add coolant power steering fluid and trans fluid. I hope the vortec heads are worth it.
I got around to getting some more of the engine put together. Cleaned up and painted. I bought a new intake manifold from Jegs. Now I need a new top alternator bracket. My stock one doesn't line up with the hole in the manifold so I bought a top bracket the doesn't use that hole at all.
Found a manifold for $15 from the exhaust shop in town. He couldn't find a drivers side to match. He said he would just change the passenger sine manifold and leave the drivers side as is even though they are different. I'll post pics after I get it all finished up. Thanks
I had an 88 cutlass that I put manifolds from a 78 or 79 4wd chevy truck with a 350. It cleared. I think I'm just gonna look for those. I didn't think they had the 6 bolt manifold but it looks like in pics they do. I looked up manifolds for a 78 el campion with a 350 and the pics on the parts...
Could these work? I found them on eBay. They are for a 69 to 72 chevy truck. They angle back but I'm not sure it will still clear the frame. Otherwise I'm gonna give the vortec manifolds a try. At least for the passenger side.
I already have too much money into it and i have spent too much time as well too go too cheap i agree. How do the vortec manifolds join up with the pipes? It looks to be flat and the manifolds i have are different. I had a terrible time even finding the heads in the first place. I had to get...
I think I might get the Flow Tech headers. They aren't too expensive and since I have dual exhaust that runs where the collectors should end up. That way I can cut the pipes off there and weld on the collector flange. Hopefully it will be as easy as that. At worst I might have to have the pipes...
What's the best headers for our cars? The last ones that came with my old cutlass didn't clear the shifter linkage and hit everywhere. Which are the best fit and have the best corrosion resistance. I'm thinking of just running headers if I can't run my manifolds.
That's not at all what I want to hear! I.m sure the pipes from the manifolds will have to be redone and welded to the rest of the exhaust. These heads better be worth it! Yes it is copper. I was gonna go with a bronze but the parts store was out and I'm really happy with this VHT Burnt Copper.
I recently removed the 327 from my Monte. It had brand new dual exhaust from the manifolds back put on a little over a year ago. The engine lacked power and oil practically poured out from it. After removing it to clean it up and put in new gaskets. I decided to put on some vortec heads I had...
I just have the stock idiot lights in it now that do not work with the sending units on the engine. I eventually want to find stock gauges for that dash. I'm just waiting for money to get the rest of the parts I need. In the mean time I'm gonna start cleaning the engine bay. It's gonna take a...
I pulled out my engine last week. I took it apart and everything looks really good. I'm painting it and I put my vortec heads on it with new valve seals. I need an intake still. I'm thinking about a Weiand Speed warrior vortec intake. It's like an edelbrock air gap. I got the long block painted...
I have a 78 monte as well! I am also wanting to put some vortec heads on. I have a set of 906s. Mines a 327 and I'm not sure what my cam is. What would be a good cam? And I also haven't heard about a coolant bypass when using the vortec heads
Re: electric trunk popper help quick!!!!
I took one out of a Grand Prix for my 79 Monte Carlo. It bolted up and closes fine. I just haven't wired it up yet.
Well I've been busy. I put an edelbrock carb on with na new filter and hose, new air filter and cleaner, added a pcv valve, adjusted the valves and timing, new valve cover gaskets, plugs wires cap and rotor as well as the starter. I had to splice in new starter wires because the originals were...
