Slight correction. Dual gate with reclining buckets was standard on 79
H/O, along with gage package, sport wheel, and pretty much all the Calais fare, and the
H/O package was put on 2,499 of those cars (they already had the Delta EPA certified so they could put the 350/350 in LESS THAN 2500 other cars, otherwise it would have to be certified for the
H/O specifically). This causes many of us
H/O lovers some discontent because the 403 was also already certified so like, WTF GM? Demand may have been through the roof though if that happened, but perhaps they didn't want it to. It shouldn't have messed with any average fuel economy numbers, but who knows.
They did use black rockets on header panel emblems instead of the red stuff. As well as the only factory-offered Hurst car to come with gold/black instead of red/black
H/O emblems. But other than that, the 350R was the huge difference of the Hurst. It was the only
Hurst/Olds that was made entirely in-plant and was not sent to a teir 1 upfitter for finish work.
There's no Calais option you couldn't get on the
H/O to the best of my recollection. So a moonroof or T-tops were available. GM kept some records of major option stuff, but nothing much on details like how many 79
H/O's with power trunk or power windows, etc. Nobody can even tell you how many came with what roof option, even T-tops. Anyone who says they can, can't. I suspect there were many less sunroof cars than T-tops, however. A hair over 20% of 1979 Calais had T-tops, so the numbers were extrapolated to get any number you do happen to see for T-tops. But with car options, you can't readily do that with any accuracy. Many more than that in reality for
H/O, most likely. 1334 were black which meant 1165 were white, since they only came in two flavors.
GM STILL didn't keep up with production option numbers, even with the very popular selling 4th gen Camaro SS from Chevy/SLP and 5th gen ZL1 that just Chevrolet was putting out from 1998-2015. They broke things down like colors, top (hard top or convertible, no T-top or sunroof numbers), engine and transmission combos, that was about it. I don't have a 6th gen, but I imagine they never changed their ways.
Some things will just remain a mystery.
