Just picked up 1979 Malibu wagon with V8 For 100.00 Was looking to make a sleeper out of this car but need to know where to start. Engine is strong but automatic transmission worn out has only 1st and reverse. Got 84 C4 Vette for free that has blown crossfire in it but good transmission, and rear end would these fit with minor adjustments.

transmission yes (usual 700R4 mods), rear requires MAJOR fabrication and is weak anyway

Welcome aboard!
Sounds like you're off to a good start. Take the 700-R4 out of the 'vette and sell the rest for parts.
I'm not sure if you would need to replace the tailshaft housing on the 700. The rear mount might be situated differently than the one on the Corvette. I would look into that further.

Post some pics of the wagon.

Thanks I will post pics this weekend of the first stage of project, Need to get new carb leaks all over the place. Do you know if the vette wheels would fit with spacers the would look great if they did. Also factory a/c belt was missing when I got it but line is charged and pump spins so I"m going to check that out this weekend. Got th350 for free today out of a chevy pickup so Im going to use that one till I get that vette off the ground. But any suggestions would be great.

Don

Don,
Do yourself a favor...sell the 'vette wheels, or trade them for something that will easily fit your car.. You'd have to add wide spacers to make 'em work on your car. In my opinion, it's not worth it. Besides, I think there would be clearance issues.
Getting a free TH350 is a good deal. At least it will get you back on the road in the meantime.
For $100.00, you can't beat it.

The vette 700 will not have a provision for the typical trans mount, they use a torque arm. Tailshaft housing swap will make it work.
