1980 Cutlass Sedan 305Eng/????transmission

I have a 1980 Cutlass sedan with a 305 Chevy motor in it not sure what type of transmission that it has, but a friend of mine says that it should have come w/th250C transmission and he said those transmissions were junk. how can I tell if its the 250 transmission or the 350 transmission. Going to rebuild the motor trying to figure if the old transmission is worth rebuilding. Hoping it's a th350 though? If anyone could help me determine what type of transmission.....I'd appreciate it.
