1980 Pontiac LeMans Station Wagon - G-T-faux (stuck with it, and can't shake it... like a bad case of herpes)

Totally forgot I needed a pan so a TCI 278000 solved that (cannot wait to slap a Summit Racing sticker on it). I bought this one because it comes COMPLETE down to the filter(s), and will save some guess work - plus it doesn't require a filter extension (which is a fancy way to say "future point of failure").

Got a little work done today. Set the driveshaft loop back 2", not necessarily required to put everything back together - but it was a bit too far forward for my liking.

The thing is there is only 1/16" difference in total length between the 4L60E and 4L80E - so other than the transmission mounting point and slip yoke it is pretty much a direct swap (LOL - just kidding).

But, I don't have to modify the driveshaft length so that's a bonus... so I stole a lightly used 1350 u-joint from an old TBSS driveshaft and put it together.

Built a thingy for holding transmissions out of an F-body panhard bar, an old G-body jack, half an exhaust clamp, and some scrap. It bolts to one of my engine stands. And now I can hang the 4L80E and start working on it.

Finished up the trans holding doodad.

Then I got to dealing with an issue that is probably the biggest hurdle going from a 4L60E to a 4L80E: getting the shifter to work with the column lock-out/NSS. After moving everything 1" back or up - it works! All gear positions, no binding. I still have a few more tweaks to make, but man - what a relief.

Now I can pull the trans out and start modding it.
