I just picked up (3) 1980 w30 s. One white with white vinyl interior, a second white with tan cloth and lastly a black with tan cloth and power Astro roof. Any idea if the astro roof option is quite rare on these models? Glove box even has the envelope with the tool for the roof. I am able to get all the GM docs for these which is nice. I think it maybe worth keeping a couple of them together instead of parting for resto projects but they are going to need full restoration! I assume there is no break down on options like the white interior vs cloth etc and cars with hard top vs astronroof and t top etc? Curious as I was told the white interior on the white car is rare but what about the black car with the roof. Thanks in advance Darryl

The AstroRoof option is quite rare in any 1980 Cutlass, probably more so in the 442’s. I have an AstroRoof in my ‘80 Calais, essentially a 442 without the sticker package. Most 442’s if they had a roof option was T-Tops.

I’ve only seen one other ‘80 442 with a roof option that wasn’t T-Tops, it was a sunroof with the glass top. To the best of my knowledge, there is no documentation on which cars got which roof options.

Nice purchase, I’m very envious. Any chance on selling some parts off them? I’m in dire need of some ‘80 Calais/442 specific pieces. Namely a set of good grilles and headlight bezels.

Congrats!

Hi Likely will sell some parts but I plan to keep the white vinyl car and the black astro roof car complete. I wouldnt want to sell parts at this time but the last one I would need some parts so it is likely be a donor. When I figure out everything I can reach out and see if I can help you. It was a collector up here had them all in a green house since 91 era had 4 I got 3 other where was sold to somebody else. Neat find for sure. Cheers Darryl

That sounds fine Darryl, providing it’s not too far off in the future. Please keep me in mind when you get to that point.

I don’t blame you one bit, especially save that rare survivor AstroRoof car! Looking forward to seeing your progress.

It is cool so many were sold up here. Too bad Olds didn't have the guts to put the 403 in the Hurst for 78/78, 10th anniversary, come on . Either way, cool cars and decent performance for 1980. Get them back on the road.

Funny thing is it does seem like our cars were ment to run the bigger engines (physical & displacement) but you guys in the north had to suffer with the US emission BS instead of being the last stand for those bigger engines. Would of been cool to see Canadian market cars with 403's, BBC's, 400 Pontiacs & Buicks.

Considering our emissions standards were more lax here, a 403 would have been an easy swap and possible. I believe the Dodge Dart 340 lasted one more year up here. A 403 powered Cutlass with all the available aluminum body components could have ran mid 15's instead of 16's. In an era of lowest emissions and mpg with crude control methods it wasn't meant to be.

All 3 are very rare, only 886 made and only a handful were white vinyl, I've only seen one in the last 20 years or even one with a sunroof.
All 3 cars should be restored

I have actually seen quite a few for sale up here, you can tell a lot were exported up here. Almost all are hard top white/gold and the beige interior. The moon roof, black and white vinyl interiors must be super rare. Kind of like the nicer 83 Hurst sandrift grey or the very rare 84 Hurst vinyl maple interior. Neat to see a few still around. What is it with no front bumpers on all the cars?
