Can't say I'd put much faith in that VIN decoder. I ran the VIN on my 86 El Camino and it listed it as a SS model which it was (Z15 on the SPID) But....My 88 Monte Carlo SS comes back as a LS model. Same with a family members 85 Monte Carlo SS comes back as a LS. We both have the original bill of sale for our cars and we have the window sticker and build sheet on the 85.

There never was a diesel Monte Carlo SS, not sure what that or other sites may show, the 8th digit of a 7 means it is a Monte Carlo SS for 1983. The VIN engine code of 7 for 83' means 305 High Output. Can't have both.

i went to another MC forum for decoding vins and came up with this.. guess i have an oddball? View attachment 110707

Your VIN is 1G1AZ37N6DR....
The 6th & 7th digit are 37....Body style 2door coupe
The 8th digit is N which is the diesel not a 7 which would be a HO305 used in the SS.
Sorry to say you have a SS clone.

If you had a 83 SS it should read 1G1AZ3776DR.....

If you check that GM link I posted it will only list the L69 HO 305 as the only engine for an SS. Post some pics of your car to show how the car is now. You might not have a real SS but the PO could of put some effort to make it look good enough to pass as one.
