I also went and got my wife's birthday present yesterday. Gotta keep the wife happy so I can spend money on the Monte  plus we can cruise together without cramming my boys in the back around the cage.

Don't know if you had seen my roll bar but it's an idea for you to keep the back seat and trunk open. IF you have any expectations about getting into racing seriously go full cage now.

I really like that set up. Did you buy a kit then make your own down bars, or did you build the whole cage your self? Now that we have the mustang I’m leaning more towards having this more as a strip car. I’m not going to put the interior back in, just two race seats. I’m still up in the air about removing the heater box. I also have this as a summer time daily.

S&W kit and bent the down bars. If you pull the heater box your not saving much weight but but opening up space - you can always re-install it. If you are going to install a full cage I have some ideas you might like.

I had the same type bars in my chevelle when I had the back seat in it. If you don’t plan on using the back seat straight bars are ok. But it’s important that they go to the top of the spring seat crossmember to support the load and stiffen the upper control arm mounts.

I plan on getting the s&w kit as well, they have an option for the bent bars to save the rear seat I think it was only like $40 extra. I’m going to hold off on the cage for a while I still have to buy a complete fuel system and suspension first and I’m on a limited budget for now. I’m hoping to be able to make some passes before the end of the season by. I will definitely be asking questions when I am ready to install a cage thank you for your help and pictures.

We all start out with limited budgets and it grows. You have quite an engine there, and I love those cylinder heads. Have they had any work done to them? You have more engine than I do although similar. I have a stock short block L-82 350 w/ the 034 heads (about 10/1) comps 306 cam w/ a Vic Jr and a 750. I'm a little north of 450hp to the wheels and run low 11's. That being said I would try and talk you into a full cage now while your apart, it will really stiffen that frame. I think you already know your rear end isn't going to live behind it and suggest selling it before you break it.

I fully ported the heads myself. I practiced on a set of 305 heads first wich are on my camaro now. I do plan on caging it soon that’s why I’m not going to install an interior. I’m going to go with a 9 inch weather I build one myself of find one from the local circle track guys. I’ll gut the 7.5 and use the posi in my camaro that has a gov lock 👎. Here is the work I did on the heads before the went to the machine shop.

Finally got to work on the car today after a little hiatus. Rear floors are welded in, next up is the ends of the rear seat support. Hopefully they aren’t to much of a pain. I also scored some moroso trick springs from a few members here.

I came across last night on jegs. They have a 10 point as well for $294 shipped but I don’t like the roof halo set up. But for $204 shipped for a 8 point cage that’s a hard price to pass up. I could add the other bars later possibly. I know the s&w is the best but it’s $500 with shipping. Any thoughts?
