Here some pics of my project car, some time in the spring im looking to replace the 307 with a 350 or whoever recommends a better engine let me know. im trying to make her go real fast. so maybe a 350 wouldn't be a good idea..anyways so far I bought the car for cheap! it has no rust on the body only the doors which are replaceable. so far all it needed was a battery and altenator.

Olds 350, 403 or 455 for a more direct bolt in. If you find a 455, they are usually attached or the owner has a TH400 trans. Your stock trans won't last without upgrades. Then there is the 7.5" rear, expect exploding spider gears.

I have owned several of these 307's and currently have 2, one in an 83 and another in an 87. I had a chance to talk to Joe Mondello about these before he passed away and while they were certainly not his favorite engine, he did tell me they could be built to produce some decent power. The roller cam set up they came with was an advantage and many Olds power add ons will work on the 307. Like any cam, cams like compression, so if your engine is below 9 to 1 you are wasting your time no matter what engine it my be. Anything above 10.25 to one is not going to want to run on pump gas. I am not sure just how much you can squeeze out of a 307 but there is some potential there. I had one in a 86 Olds Delta 88 Royal Brougham with a 3 speed auto [ instead of a 4 speed auto ] that was an absolute animal compared to an 84 307 in the same car with a 4 speed auto, point is you can get a good one or you can get a dog. Luck of the draw I guess.
