All, Thanks for all of your comments and suggestions. I finally found the shifter cable I was looking for and it fit perfect. After going through a few cables and trying to modify one through trial and error, ordering online and shipping back I found the right cable and more importantly the right length. Many photos of what you see online I found out were standard generic photos and not necessarily a photo of the actual cable. Anyways, I found 2 cables at Advanced Auto Parts that suppositly fit my 86 442. The difference was the manufacturer and cable length. The cables come in two lengths 29" and 26". The one that fit my car was the shorter cable part # 04280 mfc Motormite. Works like new! Hope this helps anyone else out there looking to replace their trans shifter cable.
