looking to upgrade the alternator on a 1986 chevy monte carlo cl V8 305 alternator ...just looking for the best options and advice

The easiest option would be to source the highest output 10 or 12SI alternator that you can find. Think truck or police car applications in the 80's or 90's. The aftermarket can make even higher amperage ones, but they can be pricey.

A better option may be to convert to a CS130 or CS144 alternator. These (most of them, anyway) have the same mounting tabs as your current one, and start at 105 amps and go up from there. These can be found in early 90's full size cars. You will have to change out your two pin connector with a CS style connector and use metric bolts instead of the standard ones on the alternator itself, but it is otherwise a direct swap.
