Too many issues with the Rochester with electric choke. Just want to do away with it all together. Go manual choke carb and stand alone dizzy. What brand and what size would I need to go with?

600 cfm is a good size. I'd just go with an earlier non electric q jet

Still need a vac advance distributor but it should be a direct swap assuming you get an olds/Pontiac carb

If your only problem with your current carb is the choke that is a simple problem to solve. The book will tell you in print and in pictures how to set the choke up. No reason to start switching parts to work around something that you can cure.

Going to a non computer carb rarely fixes things, it just opens a can of worms. The computer stuff often acts up because there is a underlying problem with the engine itself like a vacuum leak. Other common problem are noobs screwing stuff up with the wiring and bizarre Jerry rigging. The stock carb is the best carb for a stock engine which is 750 cfm.

Most common dieseling causes are incorrect ignition timing and too high idle speed (often indictive of vacuum leaks). A alarming number of old cars have lean exhaust problems.
