Why am I rebuilding a 230hp bbc? Because it's going in a truck. Trucks aren't meant to be hot rods.
Don't move to TX if you feel that way. there were days when i worked at the speed shop that trucks were all that people were buying stuff for. Sad to say there's a bunch of Okies like that as well

I wouldn't even consider a flat tappet cam. Here, he's buying an intake, carbeurator, and valve springs to break the cam in. Then, add in break-oil, and crossing your fingers that the Chinese core doesn't go flat. FVck that noise; could have been roller by then with no break-in and not have to worry about additives after.

Why does everyone keep assuming I'm buying an intake? I've said numerous times: THE SQUARE BODY TRUCK 454 TBI USES A QUADRAJET INTAKE WITH AN ADAPTER. IT'S THE SAME INTAKE AS ONE FROM THE 70s.

I'm buying a USED distributor, USED quadrajet, stock replacement cam/lifters (already have), upgraded thicker pushrods and accompanying guideplates since I've read so many horror stories of late 70s and 80s 454s bending the dinky 5/16 pushrods, rocker arms (stock stamped, unless i find a good deal on roller) and most likely valve springs. I can't get a clear answer on what the specs for the stock ones are. And gaskets, rings, cam, main, and rod bearings. Probably an oil pump and pickup if these ones are full of ****. That's it. Maybe better heads if i can find some that are better and will work with my intake and exhaust manifolds. Boom. ~2k bbc rebuild.

Now that you have a plan. Stick to it and no more f-ing around! I think you could probably fix it right for 500 bucks, but what ever. I have 3000 bucks in a Ford 390 sitting in pieces for a 77 High Boy. So I have been there done that. We all get our *ss kicked from time to time.

The stock TBI does not like more than 215 duration, at least the sbc TBI. The 204/214 cam needed the idle bumped up and ran near perfect in closed loop. Open loop was a different story, ran almost like the choke was on a little bit.
