I'll be pulling and tearing down the 88 Monte SS 305 to reseal it and put in a timing chain probably this weekend. I bought a Fel Pro full engine gasket set and I opened it up. Looks like it's a one piece rear main seal??? Wasn't expecting that. So is this 1988 305 a roller cam or flat tappet engine?

there was no roller cams in a G body engine and all the 305's 86 and up were one piece rear main

I may be wrong about the roller cam, there was some LG4 engines used in the 88 Monte Carlo and Caprice that had a roller cam but since this is an SS it should have the L69 which is not a roller

Sorry about that, I was on the small screen and Interruptedat the same time when I pressed post. The later SBO 307s had roller cams from the factory..

And they where also roller ready. But I think that the Fbody and later Bbody's are the only ones that got the roller cams.
by roller ready it means that the block was machined for the cam retainer and the lifter bosses where machined for the dog bones and spider hold down.
