Alright, I know, It was just something that popped into my head. It is different. For sure, There are a lot of things to consider, power to weight ratio is better than any V8. Power to displacement is insane compared to a V8. The little 1.4 Turbo in my Cruze puts out a better ratio than all the N/A race engines that we have built. The 2.0 Turbo stock comes in the new Regal GS, with an optional 6spd. I saw some where on the net where some one put one in a 69 nova to be different and it was around 600hp... These are the motors that are used in the Cruze's that kick everyones asses in road racing. Why not build a more powerful lighter engine, and focus on suspension, and you will have one hell of a ride. That gets 25+ mpg
I want to hear some opinions on this.

can you get enough low end torque out of it, without spending thousands, to drive 3000lbs on the street?

The stock Regal GS has 270hp and 298 lb-ft. with a 6spd. It was named the WardsAuto World's "10 Best Engines". The engine has 135hp per liter! Do any of the production V8's have that?? :( I am totally for, shear muscle, but you have to take a look at some of these new EcoTec's. They do not have that annoying buzz to them. The have a pretty decent growl to them because of the turbo.

I have not seen dyno sheets on this but I suspect even with the turbo torque probably would not be stellar at moving a 3,500 pound car. As in low rpm braud and peak. The ecoboost 3.5 v6 would be outstanding though. Much like the Grand Nationals. I just looked ay the current wards and did not see it.

Figure the na ecotec in the Solctice pushe dabout 2900 pounds with around 180 hp. A g-body at say 3200-3500 with a turbo ecotec with close to 300hp and slightly less torque should move fairly well. I'm not a fan of 4 cylinders but you have to respect technology.

would be a interesting swap, I toyed with the idea of doin a supercharged 3.8 out of a newer GP on my old 81..But the fab work and cutting of the firewall a bit, obtaining the donor engine etc etc quickly made me change my mind
