83 El Camino, mostly stock. Tubular upper A arms and Blazer brakes, stock ride height. Camaro wheels are 17x9, I think they will fit on the back, not so sure about the front. If they will fit, what size spacers will I need?

Do you know the back spacing
Not for the Camaro wheels, I know they would need spacers though. I did some rough measuring and I was thinking 8 inch was about as wide as I wanted to go in the front. Was hoping someone had tried this and would have all the answers.

Someone here used them already on their car.

Made Olds ralley II clones out of them.

Not sure if he used a spacer or not

check my avatar for 17 x 9's.... they will fit, you just need 2-1/2" wheel spacers.

i went from a set of 1996 camaro wheels (16 x 8) to the 2002 camaro 35th anniversary wheels (17 x 9). the 17 x 9's fit, but the clearances of course are tighter.

With spacers that make the wheels zero offset, they should fit if you don't go wide or tall. Try to match the Gbody diameter up front.

i haven't tried these on my camino but i do run 17x9 z28 and trans am rims with 275/40/17 tires on my stock height 79 brown calais. its in storage so i can't check the spacer dimensions. but i know my front spacers are thinner than the rear. like 1.25" front, 1.5" rear, or something like that.
i do run an iroc steering gear to limit turning radius, this reduces tire rub on full steering lock. on my cutlass, the front won't handle more than 4.25-4.5" of front spacing, think opposite of back spacing. which mean back spacing of front tires is like 5-5.25 of back spacing on the front tire assemblies. if they stick out too far, they rub on the inner fenders on full suspension compression.
the rears can't handle as much back spacing as the fronts. something like 4-4.25. this is an easy one to measure. just jack up the rear and remove your tires. take a straight edge, stick, ruler, etc. and place it on the face of the brake drum and measure with a tape measure the distance from the stick to the frame or inner wheel well. this will be the amount of back spacing your car will tolerate.
again, this is what i have found on by 79 cutlass. your results may vary.

Olds Joe, Thanks for the pictures! I never would have guessed that you could put that big a tire on the front, interesting...

so i stopped by the storage place and checked the spacers, front ones are 1.5" thick and the rears are 2.25" thick. the back spacing on a factory 17x9 ws6 rim is 7-1/8. z-28 rim should be the same.
