200 metric trans or the 2004r? The 200 metric trans is a 3 speed. I think I have the metric trans. How can I tell the difference. My shifter is on the floor. I have an 83 cutlass.

both the 200 and 200-4r are "Metric" as one is built off of the other. 83 can go eitherway (if memory serves) I do believe it was the first year they paired a G-body with the 200-4r. Your console has a gear indicator ....
is it PRND21 or PRN[D]D21?
it's more like a squared off O surrounding the D, but the brackets are the best I can type the OD symbol.

I just looked I have the 200-c no overdrive. will this work or do I need to find something else? 🙁

I cant tell between pic 2 and 3 how many bolts are on each pan the 200-c and the 350 the pans look alike?

pic 2 has 11 bolts. pic 3 has 13 bolts. You don't want to keep a regular 200 trans as they were mass produced junk. If it is a 350, then those are easy to build cheaply and hold up to a lot of abuse. Trust me, I put mine through hell lol

Really a TH350 is the best way to go unless you are going to be going on the highway regularly. I've driven my car with a TH350 and 2000 stall on the highway and it wasn't bad. However, that was with a 2.29 gear. I've taken my car up to 70 with the same combo except a 3.73 gear and it was probably at 2400-3200 and if you could live with that then you are golden. However OD is really nice on the highway...

But on the other hand, TH350's are plentiful in the junkyards, there's thousands of different people building parts for them, and they are pretty cheap to build. I used Ron Session's book on TH350 rebuilding and really if you are good with tools then it's a snap to take it apart and put it back together.

I counted 13 will it hold up? can I get a shift kit put in? wpll the rear-end wold up?

I would still say get a rebuild kit and you can put a shift kit in it. I loved my 350 for a long time but then I got 3.73 gears to replace my 2.29's, there was a big difference in rpms, shifting, and it was more rpm than I wanted on the highway.

Ok hold up a minute. I have the 200c with 11 bolts. Just went out on me. I just want something that will bolt right in so I can take my time and build my orginal with all the new upgrades and goodies. Is it hard to find the 200c? I have overdrive on my 200c. help me here :blam:

IMHO, deep-six a 200C - it's a turd ... replace with th350 (easier) or upgrade to the 200-4r (lots of parts need to be swapped). TH350s are plentiful, cheap and go in the place of the th200C with almost NO fuss.
