285/40/18

Hello, Has anyone run a 285/40/18 tire on a 9" rim? Just checking for a friend !!!!

There isn't enough information to say yes or no. Your first problem is going to be the width of the wheel, you need to measure how much space you have from the frame rail to the quarter panel, for argument sake lets say its 10", then you need to measure the face of your rear end where the back of the wheel mates with brake drum/disk to the frame or the quarter panel, lets say its right in the middle at 5". Now that means you could potentially put a 9" wide wheel but the second issue you will have is the offset of the wheel itself & how it relates to where the wheel will live once installed. If you have a 9" wide wheel but your offset is not in the center of the wheel & it's shifted 2" in either direction, then when it's install you could hit the frame or the quarter panel depending on which way the wheel is offset. The tire size won't matter as much since it will closely match the wheel, unless the tires are wider than the wheel in which case the tire could stick out more than the wheel by the difference.

If you don't understand wheel offsets, google it. Pretty basic once you see a picture of how wheel offsets work.

The 285mm will go on a 9" wheel but it won't be optimum. I would want a 9.5" @ the minimum; 10" even better.

As mentioned by @Supa.Slo.SS, getting the right offset/back-spacing helps fit things & will be important. That's a fairly tall tire as well @ almost 27" in height.
