How long after spraying epoxy do you apply any filler or 2k primer? Spi says if time allows wait 24-48 hrs to apply filler. But doesn't mention 2k primer. I'm getting ready to spray epoxy but I'd like to gameplan for Tommorow too. Thanks

Ready to spray epoxy? That reads kind of strange if I’m being honest. Do you know if that’s a 2k system by itself?

As for top coating, the Nason primer I’ve used calls for a 1-24 hour recoat window after spraying at 75 degrees. I would definitely lay down 2k filler primer before I put bondo on as a safety measure.

Sorry I should been more clear. They're both 2k. Epoxy is like glue though. It doesn't sand real well but is an impermeable barrier, and the best way to get good adhesion. The "2k" I was referring to is a 2k urethane high build primer/surfacer. melloelky Made a great point... I'm gonna call spi in a few hours to get it squared away. Thanks for the help fellas.

I was taught that body filler only adheres to bare metal and epoxy primer. I personally would not spray primer filler first.

Then again, a lot has changed since I went to school, and there are some good product innovations out there. All I can recommend is to study the P-sheets for everything you want to use, and follow their requirements by the letter. This is too big of a job to have to do over again in 5-8 years.

That's exactly the product that came to mind as I typed that. I just hope someone who starts with evercoat doesn't assume all body filler is the same.

Evercoat Rage Gold FTW.

Awesome bits of info. Spi tech told me basically what your tech sheet says. 2 wet coats wait 24 hr. But he says with it being 85 for the first 6 hrs and never dropping lower then 70, I can start applying filler and high build as early as Tommorow afternoon but waiting 48 hrs is better. Ill probably start bodywork friday. It's gonna be mid 70s this weekend. The high build isn't as temperature sensitive as epoxy either so I can continue thru fall. I used half a gallon of ever coat cheap lightweight filler so far. It's hard to avoid pinholes(ive gotten better with thin costs and pressure)for this rookie, and clogs the paper.I'll probably look into rage ultra since you guys recommend it. Especially if it's easier to sand too.
