Well, a turbo 3.8 was available in 1983. But not in your car. Id swap to a GN drivetrain from 86/87 or do what TurboZach did on here and toss theottle body efi and a GN turbo setup on a carbed 3.8 turbo.

WELCOME ALEX !!! Im happy you found this awesome site!! Would love to see some pictures of your Grand Prix! As far as "worth the money" Its truly hard to say...without knowing the STRICT CA emissions laws there, would hate to see you dump a lot of money into a project that would become uninspectable because of some regulation. I will provide you with a link to check out, to give you some insight on what it would take to turbocharge your GP. (Granted your doing a carburetor draw through turbo system) . If your planning on doing a 86 87 intercooled conversion, your talking BIG $, and would almost need a donor car for all the components inclusive of complete wiring harness and ECM. Again, Welcome aboard!! :)

It's your car man, We here just to Give you advice & support... It would be cool as man! Otherwise, I came across this a while back, Haven't seen anyone do this yet...? It's for the 1975 (First-Year) and Newer 3.8Ls. https://howellefi.com/product/hb38-buick-3-8l-engine/ A bit Pricy but Wonder how it Performs on the engine.

My only suggestion is do your research first on what you can change or swap to be emissions legal in LA California, you can do an E-rod swap but chances are there is little you can legally do to your current 3.8 to add power.

As far as making power I doubt this TBI would make much of a difference over his current CCC plus it is only legal in California for 1975 and earlier so it wouldn't be legal for 1983.
