Howdy,
Are the intakes on the 1983 307 4 bbls the same as the one off of a 1987 307?
Thanks!

No. They will physically bolt up to either engine but the later A5 intakes have tiny little ports to match the tiny ports in the 7A heads.

On the earlier 307's with the A4 intake and 5A heads, the A5 intake would really choke it to death.

The '87's made even less horsepower than the anemic 140 of the '83

Found the answer to my own question. The '85 and later models were tuned better to make more low end and use the smaller ports.

Anyone have a good spare A4 hanging around they want to sell?

Acutally, the HP rating for the '83 was 150HP not 140HP.

Early Vin Y engines were rated at 150HP while the Vin 9's were 180HP.

In '86 when they switched to the roller cam engines, the HP ratings were 140/170HP respectively.

I have a 307 and i dont have an A4 or A5 intake where it would say that it says 17????

Forgot about the '17' intake. Some one can correct me if I'm wrong on this but I believe the '17' was the same as the A4 but was cast in cast iron instead of aluminum.

Oh, and here's pictures of the difference in ports between a 5A head and 7A head. I know they're not pictures of the intakes but it will give you and idea of why the two different intakes can't be swapped for one another:
