350 "puttering" noise ??

i have an 83 cutlass supreme with a 350 chevy 4bolt and a 700R trans.
after the engine gets warm it starts making a puttering noise...its not a consistent noise its like every 5-6 seconds
im thinking maybe a valve is stuck open or ...a camshaft

has this happened to anybody else?

quick way to find out if you have a valve problem is to take a piece of paper and hold it over the exhaust pipe with one hand with the car running....if you see the paper being sucked back into the exhaust pipe then you have a valve problem...

it actually just turned out to be a timing problem.
