i thinking about rebuilding my 350r my bduget that im working with is 1500 to 2000 what type of egine combos do you guys think i should go with up with,my goal is to reach about 330-350hp360-390ftlb of torq i have a rebuilt 700rtrans

What generation block is it? '68-'76 or '77-'80?

1980 block its from an 80 t-top olds cutlass 442 w-30

Sounds quite doable, remember heads and cam is where you want to put the most research and monies. Buying things like the intake and headers used .... will keep you within your budget. You should also call around and see what machine shops are familiar with Oldsmobile engines .... not just who will apply all their Chevy knowledge to your Olds (it does make a difference). I've only built one performance Olds and I have no numbers to back up the combo, so I will leave specifics to more experienced Olds addicts.

appriciate to reply thanks does any body have any olds buildups combo that they share

I would try and find a solid main web block 1968 to 1975. What grade of gas do you want to run? There is a lot of good build info on real olds power.com. I would contact one of the olds engine shops. I would at least buy the cam, valve springs and lifters from them. I bought a lot of parts off Dave Smith in the past and was very happy with them. I found Dave's prices to be good. He used to run a pro stock olds. I would use number 5,6, heads and put the larger valves in to the heads. The stock intake is okay to use. Headers are cheep hp.You have to now what comp you want to run. I would build a 9 to 1 comp engine with big valve heads using the factory number 5,6 cast iron heads. With a cam from a olds engine builder.Headers the best ones that fit your budget.Stock intake, if there is money left over aftermarket. Note this can be replaced at a later date. You will have to give the olds engine shop the weight of your car, rear end gear ratio, and grade of gas you want to run, Converter size if its an automatic trans. The more info you give the better. Good Luck and dont rush your build take your time.

yeah i do plan on taking my time

unless you plan to spin the engine hard .... a '80 webbed main engine is fine, but the stock heads are another story

well no i dont plan on have a high rever i just want the motor to have the power to run hard on tall gears strong torq, highway passing power and get good mpg with the carburator thats all

I would still build an early block 68-75 if you are spending the money to have it machined. Why not build the strongest engine for the same money . Fast engine parts sells engine kits with brand name parts for a very good price. I would still get my valve train parts from an olds engine builder. You do not need the big valve heads but if you are having them rebuilt you might still want to go that way.
