I’m sure this may have been covered previously but what the heck.

I’ve got an 87 Monte LS parts car with the 4.3 v6. It has the full serpentine pulley system.
Will these pulleys be functional on an small block v8 assuming I get the correct water pump.
Thanks for any help

The 200/229/262 V6's used the same accesory brackets as the SBC so there shouldn't be much if any issues.

The serpentine system will bolt right on - no issues.

Do the years matter guys? I have read thread after thread on this and i'm going crazy!! some say this some say that...everyone has a different opinion. I've got a Gen 1 (86-95) 4 bolt main 1 piece rms. I am bolting on NKB aluminum heads from Skip White Performance. Now , will a 4.3 98-04 from a S-10 blazer (vortec) supply me with the brackets and pulleys needed to bolt on a Serp Belt set up. I am NOT running AC. Only Alt, W/P (reverse rotation - 90's Chevy truck), Power Steering Pump (OE 1978 Monte Carlo one should work, ). I Know I will have to change the pulleys, and do some electrical on the Alt from a SI to a CS, I just want conformation on the year of the donor so I don't waste my time or money getting useless parts. If they will work with fabrication, thats cool too. I just fabricated the rear brakes from a 98 blazer onto my OE 10 bolt that I am building. As soon as I am done there, chassis is complete and next year the engine and trans get done, so I am looking for definite facts.
You guys are the best with all your knowledge so thank you so much for all the input you have and will give. In return I will share what I know when I can.

My serpentine setup came from a 2000 S-10. Just make sure and grab all of the studs and bolts that go with it, as they are a pain to buy individually.

As far as fitment, everything facing forward is the same and you can even use the 4.3 water pump and clutch fan if you have a V8 fan shroud. There is a bracket on the back of the power steering pump that goes to the exhaust manifold. This will not fit, but isn't really needed as the pump is well supported. The S-10 power steering pump will hook directly to the G-Body power steering hoses and comes with a riser tube to make filling much easier. In your case, you will also want to get an A/C bypass pulley to replace the compressor and a belt for an A/C car.

The alternator is a CS130D, which is a little less common than a CS130 but the only real difference is the 4 pin plug is round instead of square. You will definitely want to grab the pigtail for that connector when you are at the junkyard. NAPA makes the SI to CS conversion kits, but if you can scrounge an 5 watt 83 (I think) ohm resistor and put it in line with your charge wire, it should work.

The only disadvantage with this setup is that the P/S pulley is quite close to one of the bolts on the P/S pump. Mine clears with about an 1/8th inch of clearance, shouldn't ever hit the bolt but makes changing belt a bit of a pain. A flat head allen bolt in this hole would fix the issue, but I haven't got around to it myself yet.

Overall it is a worthwhile swap, and I hope this helps. Good luck!

I'm assuming the V-6 pulleys are the same as the V-8? I guess they would have to be added to the list when you're out junkyard scrounging for serpentine brackets and components.
I'd like to go with the serp setup. I'm so sick of futzing with V-belts.

I did forget a couple of things...

1. There is an idler pulley and a belt tensioner pulley. Change them as those bearings are probably near the end of their lives already.

2. This is only an issue if you retain the A/C compressor, but you may run into clearance issues between the back of the compressor and the upper radiator hose. I used a swivel-neck thermostat housing and a hose for a GMC van to clear it.

Thanks a ton Wageslave! Like the name btw! i appreciate the info. I really want this setup, and also gonna go with electric fans, so I am sure I will be asking for info on that as well later in the build. It so extensive that I have to focus on on piece of the project at a time! LOL. good ol A.D.D!! Thanks again!!
