You win, weird olds purists that complained about me wanting to swap my 84 hurst/olds's 307 for the chevy 350 I already own. The idea of an olds 455 has finally gotten to me and that is what I might just do instead of painting my ratty car. So the engine in question is a 1971 455 motor that is completely disassembled and is fresh out of the machine shop. As far as I know the block has been washed, magged and bored 30 over, has new Enginetech p3086 pistons on reconditioned rods. Has g heads that were rebuilt with new springs, guides and a valve job. Comes with a bunch of accessories parts, claims it was going to be built to 70 442 specs. what would you guy pay for this? Can I use the flywheel and water pump off the 307?

Yes we like unique Olds engines in these unique cars. Yes to both the flywheel and water pump. If you plan pushing it hard, the Eagle rods are a good idea in place of the soft stock rods. Make sure all the clearances are spot on, the 455 tends to have bottom end issues if you don't have everything just right.

I heard about the oiling issues, I read up on how to help the oil make it back down to the pan. any idea what all these parts worth? Seller wants $1500 and doesnt seem willing to negotiate.

I think you can find one for $1500. The better or best heads are A,B, and C. For mild street-strip hot rod or weekend warrior, a stock 455 crank and rods will hang in there.

Obviously, if it had ARP rod bolts that would be a plus. Or, if it had 442 W-Z dual exhaust manifolds. Or, if the heads had been cut for bigger valves and such.

Sounds a little over priced for me.

To be fair, olds stuff is crazy expensive, even moreso than Buick. But it's really just a stock rebuild with better(?) pistons and maybe a cam, and 6/10 heads. I'd offer 1,000 and no more. But if you got the cash by all means go for it, just check the clearances first before you put it in anything. Olds307and403 is right, 455s were plagued with bottom end oilling issues. Mainly from people building them like a SBC "it works for a chevy so why not this?" or building them one way and actually using it another. You could find a toronado from the 70s out of a junkyard, yank the 455 for 100 bucks, spend 1500 on a rebuild, and be as good or better off as that one. Your choice.

MrSony is right ! If you can find one out of Tornado. If l remember they came with high flow oil pump an 1 quart larger oil pan. And l believe 69(had one) had 390 HP on a 2 barrel an a torque monster, so could easily bump it up a little.

He wants 1500 because that's what he has in it. Ad has been posted for nearly a month so I'm sure if I show up with cash he would be alittle more willing to negotiate. Here the pics of it and the extra parts

It's missing the cam, water pump, oil pan and timing set. All stuff I would have gotten new anyway. Not sure if he has a gasket kit for it or not but I'll figure that into the cost

It's not even together? I'd pass. You could get all the same stuff, on the same towel in the same shape at a swap meet for a few hundred bucks and a six pack.

I liked that it was apart so I can build it and know what was in it. Why do you seem to not like it being apart?
I'll pm you canon_mutant
