Hello,

I have a 78' Malibu 2dr and I'm swapping in a L03 and a 4L60 from a 91' Caprice.
Currently, my biggest roadblock is finding a trans crossmember. As far as I know, the current TH350 x-member won't work with the 4L60. I found a sweet crossmember here, but it's way overkill for the 305 and I'd like to pay a little less.
Anyone know of a cheap, stock style trans crossmember to swap a 4L60/ 4L60E/ 700R4 into the G-bodies?

Might be best to to look at Jegs, Summit or G-Force for a double hump for the TH700R4/4L60 along with the frame extension. Unless you're going to rebuild the 4L60 to make it stronger a 4L80 might be better for spirted driving.

if all you need is a single hump xmember, use the th350 xmember, just extend the slot for where the trans mount stud attaches and set it on the frame and move it around till two or three frame holes line up. i've done this twice to mount my lt1/4l60e combos in my cars. sorry, no pics, cars are in storage. but i will see what i can do this weekend.

I might try my hand at modifying the stock x-member then if it's pretty close. I'm not really looking for any extra strength over factory, I just want to get the 305 in and drive it.

If my memory is working correctly (hopefully someone else will verify it), both the 700R4 & 4L60E from the B-Body's should have a second mount location on the tail housing. That second mount should be in the same location as the mount on a TH400 or 2004R. So if you could use one of those cross members too.

I'm believing the B & C bodies used a tail housing that was close to the TH200 4R. F bodies won't work & I wish I could remember the Vette difference.

Heard that too but not sure of the cut off years. I’m thinking it was available in the square body years. You could swap that tailhousing but I hear it’s pricey to obtain. Plus to make it work you gonna need the later year extension piece and xm as well.

I have the wasted TH350 still and a 4L60E from a 95' 9C1 laying around. I'll have to go and measure them Friday. It's looking like it shouldn't be that hard to modify the factory x-member then.
