Hello All

My regal is at the shop getting transformed from drag to street cruiser and with that we swapped out the race th400 for a built 4l60e, I know I’ll probably have to get a custom one built but I was wondering if anyone out there makes a driveline already set up for this?

You'll have to get a custom driveshaft made once the trans is in the car so a correct length can be determined. Be careful with a "built 60E" as they don't like modified engines at all. The TH400 is far superior, but if you want overdrive get a 4L80E and not have to worry about it. The 80E is a 400 with overdrive and built to withstand power in stock form.
You can do simple mods to an 80E such as shift kit, healthy converter and it'll hold 600-700ft/lbs all day.

Agreed. Stock 4l80e with HD2 shift kit will hold up better than a $3k+ built 4l60e.

In a completely custom application where you need a new/modified crossmember, driveshaft, wiring, etc. for either option.....I see no reason to go with the 4l60e.

People do it because it's cheap! I would never run any 700r4 or 4L60e transmission regardless of who built it. You can Google and find endless posts of them blowing up.

Don't waste your time and money on a 4l60e its total junk if you want to use it for anything other than getting groceries. Just be honest with yourself in where you see yourself with your car and how much "REAL HP " it has .if your looking for strength the TH400 is pretty much untouchable if you are looking for highway use with overdrive get a 4L80E. if your going to modify your car why not do it right once the price gap isn't that much !

Thank you guys for the input, my builder recommended the built 4l60e, he’s got a more aggressive set up for drag and has had a lot of luck, his car is the pic attached. I’ll take my chances just because it’s already purchased an delivered lol I guess we will see how long it’ll hold up, not planning on getting on it too hard mainly just a weekend cruiser but I definitely want it to last.

I had a “built” 4L60E in my k5 with a stock 350. Took the trans out 3 or 4 times. My Malibu is getting a 4L80 this time behind a 6.0. Anyone want a 305? 🤣

You guys are haters on the 80s-90s OD's. lol! I have a relatively stockish 700 built in 03 and its behind a mild 455, 375-475 hp/tq at the wheels. I had problems with it but it was only due to the setup of the 1-2 accumulator.
