Hey all,
So I picked up a 6.0L (2004) a year or so ago and have been keeping an eye out for a transmission. A 2002 model 2wd 4L60 has come up for a decent price. Any issues with those two bolting together? I have the original flex plate bolted to the engine. I have no plans to make wild horsepower with this thing in the near future so I'm hoping the 4L60 will be fine and for now the 7.5 rear end will be the weak link. Anyone see any issues with this?

Thanks

The weak spot on the 4L60 is the 3-4 clutch pack. It can be beefed up though. I'm not aware of a stock setup with the 4L60 and the 6.0. Perhaps the LS2 was paired with a 4L60? They will definitely bolt together and how long it lives will depend on how it's treated.

Ha...I'm pretty gentle these days. I have a Mustang when I want to abuse a car and not feel bad!!

They bolt up with the normal factory flexplate for a LS 4L60E, the 6.0l came factory with the 4L60E on it in the Denali and the Escalade...so yup it will work.

The 3-4 clutch pack like mentioned and also one of these. The splines in the input drum is one of the weakest parts of this transmission when feeding it lots of torque.

LS2s were backed with 4L65Es (GTO) and 4L70Es (TBSS).

3/4 clutch packs are a huge issue in the 4L60/65/70. Wait and find a 4L80E.

If your dont have a trans just get a 4l80e. They are super strong and since G bodies have relatively big trans tunnels they fit good. Just a th400 with overdrive. They handle 600hp in generally stock form with no problem. They are more plentiful and cheaper in 2wd form since they came in a lot of savannah vans and stuff.

60e is good for a stock 5.3 or 6.0. If you are going to never put a cam or forced induction it will be fine. If you think you might ever do anything to it go to 80e right away.

Do the 4l80e. I shredded my 4l60e with a 4.8 after 1 rebuild. Upgraded the 3-4 with a Zpack, corvette servo, and shift kit, then grenaded the drum and couldn't even get the assembly out of the case. So now on to the second transmission 3rd rebuild... shoulda spent the money on the 4l80
