I have a 1984 Monte SS. I may be buying a 1997 Z28 with a 6 speed transmission. How hard would it be to put the 6 Speed in my Monte & what would I need?

Its not that difficult to put in, its just a bit tight on the trans tunnel because the trans is fairly long. My 84 Cutlass has an Ls1/t56 combo in it, where the shifter mounts to the trans i had to "massage" the floor a bit and make the hump a bit taller in that area. But all in all its pretty straight forward. I used a crossmember from brp hotrods, but there are a bunch of companies out there now who make them (I did mine 7 years ago). The ls1 t56 and the Lt1 t56 are similar on outside but the clutches activate differently. The older t56 pulls the throwout bearing on the pressure plate backwards (it pulls on the fingers instead of pushes like old school 4 speeds). Just make sure you get all the clutch lines as well as master and slave cylinders for the camaro so it'll all work correctly. As far as the pedal, its as simple as finding an el camino/ malibu pedal assembly or there are guy out there who sell a custom pedal meant to add on to your existing assembly. Just trim the brake pedal pad and hang it. Hope this helps.

Thanks! Is there any extras I will need or will everything from the Camaro work? I'm sure the driveshaft won't but outside of that will I need to purchase anything else?

I seen somewhere else that the shifter will need to be moved forward or it will be too far back. Is this correct or will the shifter work fine in the factory location?

Yeah the driveshaft will have to be shortened and there will always little odds and ends you'll have to get to complete the swap so I usually budget a bit over what my initial thought was just to cover that. As far as the shifter, my car still has the solid bench seat and it pops up right in front of it. I'm 6' tall and with the seat set comfortably for me, the shifter barely misses the front of the seat in 2,4, and 6. Anyone with shorter legs than me has a tough time driving it, but hey its mine not theirs. haha.

97 should be an LT1 style T56 It goes right in if your body mounts are good.

You need is a clutch pedal with a longer bolt to mount it onto the existing pedals, a shifter hole with a little extra taken off on the drivers side for the reverse lockout solenoid, a Xmember and a driveshaft.

Everything else can be swapped from the Camaro.

Inspect the bell housing and then inspect it again. They crack very easily Mine was cracked had to Tig it

In the end I used a Quicktime bell housing .

Also one big factor on how easy it will be is what engine are you using?
