7.5 swap to 7.65 POSSIBLE?

I have a 1980 Grand am 7.5 rear want to take ring&pionion out of 87 Monte SS 7.65 and put in the 7.5 housing can this be done? Details Please?

Sure they are all the same with 26 spline axels. If you want a different gear you can also use the ring and pinion from the S-10 trucks and blazers. Early ones had the 26 spline axels and the later ones used the 28 spline. If you want to use the later then you will need to order the 28 spline ones from moser.

The 7.65 and the 7.5/8 fit the 7.5 rear axle. Some have 26 spline axles and some have 28 spline axles. you need 26 spline axles.

I just did this a couple months ago.dint work.took the guts out of a monte ss rear,tried to put them in a 78 cutlass.the inner pinion bearing on the monte was bigger than the cutlass.

probably would have worked if we had time to have someone swap the bearings.
