So as usual I called my mechanic today to get an update on the RED HEADED STEP CHILD and I was curious about how was the transmission performing. he told me it shifts but he hasn't really been able to drive it yet due to waiting on the dipstick and tube to come in. So I asked him did he know which 200 series transmission it was and he said its a 700r. So my question is do people usually do these switches in the grand prix. Wonder if that's the reason the dip stick tube was missing bc it was sold in the middle of a swap. When I got the car it had a 305 from a monte carlo sitting in the engine bay but not connected. I wonder did he misidentify bc after reading post on here the 700 requires a few mods to work.

200....700......it's only a 500 difference it will be fine!

700 goes in just needs a mod to the X-member

I ran a 700 behind a very stout small block for a while in my old 79 Malibu it was fine but it was also a Freddie Brown unit.

That was 16 years ago.

Now the same trans is in another GBodyForum members Big Block 68 Chevelle still going strong.

Are you sure the 305 was from a Monte because the Camaro/Firebirds had the 305 700 combo

it could've been a firebird or Camaro. I just messaged the guy who I got the car from. remember I haven't even laid eyes on this car in person so everything I find out is threw my mechanic. the seller did confirm it was a 7004r..

I believe the 200-4R takes a longer drive shaft than the 700-R4. And the crossmember mounts on the frame in a different spot.
It's been changed out the person I purchased it from confirmed it
