i got my engine on a stand and no tc for trans yet and i need to send off my stock d shaft from the th350 to get shortened up for use on this 700. i know the 700 is 3 inches longer but since i'm in a time pinch, can i just send out my d shaft to get shortened by 3'' and balanced? who here has done it? also, where can i buy the cheapest 700 crossmember to use so i dont have to chop my old one?

I have a 78 monte which had a 305 and turbo 350 trans and I put in a 388 and 700r4. You can use the original crossmember. All you have to do is cut the mounting pad back a little and drill a new hole for the trans to mount. you can also cut a notch out of the drivers side so it will work for dual exhaust. Here are a few web site that shows how to do it. It worked great for me. I would also wait until you got trans mounted then measure for the driveshaft. You know what they say measure twice cut once.
