Does any know off hand or could find out for me the weight of a '78-'80 Cutlass stock steel hood? Preferably without the hood insulator or anything on it, but will take what ya got.

I'm in the process of selecting the correct weight rating of hood struts for my modified hood (I already know what it weighs), and want to compare it to a stock one.

    Thanks in advance.

I picked up my regal hood over my head and walked it 20 feet. Seemed like it weighed anywhere from 50-60lbs.

    Thanks Steve.
If those numbers are comparable with the '78-'80 hoods, that's great news for me as my highly modified scratch built hood currently weighs in at 52 lbs.
A pound actually lighter than what's listed!
That's possible due to the large amount of factory hood bracing and hood catch I cut out of the underside to create clearance for the 455.

Mind you, that 52 lbs is with the hood still in it's raw unfinished form, without body filler, seam sealer, primer and paint, hood pin plates etc.
I'm thinking by the time it's totally finished out, it should be about bang on or still slightly lighter than a factory steel hood.
    :)

I did do a Google search before I posted, but came up with nothing for the '78-'80 models except weights for lightweight fibreglass race parts.

I'd still be interested in hearing from anyone that has weighed or knows the weight of steel '78-'80 Cutlass hoods...

Donovan, High Roller was the member who posted the weight of the hood at 53 lbs. Why not message him to see how he weighed and it if the hinges and/or insulation was included or excluded..... I think the 53 lbs is accurate without the hinges and insulation.

Stock steel hood is 55 lbs with latch spring and insulation. If wanted can also get the weight of a aluminum hood

    AWESOME, thank you!!
    :)
No weight needed for the aluminum version, just the steel one was all I was after.
As I mentioned earlier, I was just looking for the weight of a stock steel hood so I could compare it to my custom built one.

So far it appears I'm about 3 lbs lighter with the custom one, which I'll take all day long as I had concerns it would actually be quite a bit heavier.

Thanks for taking the time to respond, and for the info!

what did you use to weigh it and are you sure it's accurate, if it is you should go to the thread I posted and post that weight for a hood

I was going off weight posted for 81-88 steel hoods. I had one fly off going down the highway once and had to go pick it up and run with it. Nearly crapped myself lol
