Hello everyone I have a question I'm hoping someone has a answer for? Recently my oldest son picked up a real nice 1978'Pontiac Grand Prix. The car is origonally from Idaho, came with a 1979' 454ci GM truck motor, high rise intake manifold and edelbrock 750cfm 4-brrl carb. Which leaves very little clearence for a air filter. Anyone know of any aftermarket companys that make air cleaners to remedy clearence problems after putting big blocks in G-bodys like a 78'grand prix?

Do you have a drop base air cleaner on it ??
IIRC,even with a drop base and a Weiand Stealth intake and the stock flat hood on my Monte I still had to use a very low profile air filter, like a 2 inch or so.
A cowl induction hood will give you more room.

An edelbrock carb is easier to get to work than a large holley, because even the the drop base might have to modified for bowl clearance.

Another option is to ditch the hi-rise intake and carb. Go back to factory height intake and a Qjet and it will all fit under the stock hood.

My 1980 Grand Prix has a 1999 454 underhood. I run an Edelbrock Performer RPM Air Gap manifold topped by an Edelbrock 1406 carb. I use a drop base air cleaner (dimpled for carb clearance) with a 3" air filter element. To keep from scuffing my chrome air filter lid, I did cut out some of the support ribs from the underside of the hood.

I would show pictures, but Photobucket sucks.

You may have to do some research to confirm you have the correct motor mounts. I don't know about chevy motors but I'm sure for a Pontiac motor, 301 g body mounts are the only ones that will work.
