That's kind of puzzling to me that a brass sleeve would have less friction than needle bearings......
The main issue is the needle bearings can only stand so much valve pressure and rpm's before grenading, sending needle bearings through the engine in a hurry!
The bushings don't have that issue, and have been shown reliable in high hp, high rpm applications.
I used the same kit on my LS rockers and they rotate so smooth and with no limit.

With oil pressure a sleeve shouldn't actually see any friction as there is an oil film between the sleeve and pin. With needle bearings the film can be pushed between the rollers in high loads so they do actually receive a mechanical load.

I checked the original rocker againts the Comp setup and the Straub setup. Man the Straub is SUPER smooth compared to the other two. The Comp setup is a lot smoother feeling than stock tho..

Got really detailed on the block. Broke out some small picks and brushes. Got it pretty clean. I couldnt find the color I wanted for the block in a 2K formulation, so I decided to get super detailed and clean?high temp clear over the bare block. Once cleaned, its the perfect match with the cars finish. I also got a few parts in:

rear main seal, gasket and new cover, ARP bolts
Trick Timing chain dampener bracket, GM timing chain dampener. Early blocks didnt have the provisions for that part
Front seal, Two Piece timing cover which I'm modding for the -10an return lines off the turbos...Holley Low profile oil pan and a few other small things. Still waiting on the Go fast parts

Some pics..

Cleaned the rear of the block and painted it. New cover, gasket, rear main seal. Not installed yet. Waiting for the billet oil "dumbell" from SacCity Corvette to arrive. I may hold off on installing it-save it for the rebuild later...

A lot of tedious work getting the block to bare metal. Ill be cleaning, cleaning and cleaning a few more times before painting...

Thanks for checking back!!

Finally went ahead and clear coated the block. I used some acetoce, Rusto wax degreaser and Eastwood pre, let that all flash off and then sprayed with High temp clear from VHT.

Thanks for checking back. I ordered the LS6 ported/blueprinted oil pump from TickPerformance, an ATI crankshaft pinning kit and will be purchasing a new TCI beefier flexplate from Motion. Soon as everything Dries up, I'll get a mock up photo to see how shes looking...

Still waiting on "go fast" parts to arrive. I picked up a Brian Tooley Racing Stage 2 twin turbo cam kit with springs, keepers, retainers and pushrods. The cam was on back order but I got the refreshed 317 heads springs out and installed the BTooley kit. I used my Trickflow LS spring compressor and had the old ones out and new ones in in less than 30 minutes...

Just got word the cam was shipped. Hoping to have it all buttoned up soon. Ready to hear her running.. In the mean time, Ive been working on my wheel wells-filling all the factory holes and will spray em a nice satin black-Eastwood 2K.. Ill post up the updates as I get em. Thanks for checking back!!!

Nice little tool!

MAN! Made light work of it! A few of the lil tools I purchased for this project were pricey and will probably never be used again, but they were worth their weight in gold.. Cant wait to hear her fire up and see what happens lol! Fingers crossed (and fire extinguishers on deck!)

Got a little further on the LQ4 build. I was waiting for a few tools and things to show up. I got a PAC valve spring height checker, a pushrod length checker, Sac City Corvette align-it tool and a few other goodies to make sure things are within spec. Got the Cam all lubed up with "Cam-Shield and Ultra slick, and stabbed it in.

I did a Valve to piston clearance check test run. I got the rocker at 0 lash and rotated the block. No touching. I'm turning two old lifters into solid lifters and then redo the test. My push rod checking tool came in right unter 7.4 so my 7.4" push rods are good i think.

Picked up an ATI pin kit and pinned the crankshaft. Also, I tried like crazy to remove all the guts from the old lifters (2 of em) so I could make em solid lifters. I need to do the piston/valve clearance test again. Finally said hmmmm.... I can get two new ones for cheap and they should come apart with ease. Ordered two from Summit and hope to have em apart and flip the guts around, remove the inner spring and do the test again. Im sure Im good but just wanna do it right for peace of mind. My push rod length tool came in at 7.33 so Im good with the 7.4 BT Racingpushrods I have. Also have a oil prime tool from summit coming as well as all the fluids and stuff. I should have the block all sealed up this weekend if the needed parts arive....

I couldnt find my caliper to measure the pin so I slowly tapped it in until i could slip my Sac City Corvette "Align-It" tool on. Ill be ordering the ATI Super Dampener next. I gotta make sure the one I picked is correct..

ok moving right along. I finished up on the piston to valve clearance test. I ended up re doing it and purchased 2 new lifters and made em into solid lifters to eliminate play. I tried to break the suction loose on an old lifter but no luck. Said effit and got new one for cheap, removed the guts and flipped a few parts around. Re-did the test and all was good on both sides. Swapped out the solid lifters for the new LS7 lifters and dropped the LS9 head gaskets on. I sprayed em with Permatex Gold gasket maker, stread on some ARP ultra torque on the head stud threads, and dropped the 317 heads on. Did three passes on the torque sequence as directed by ARP

25ft pounds
50ft pounds
final @ 70ft pounds

smaller studs were 28ft pounds

I also waited a few days and re checked the torwu at 70 and 28 to see if anything moved. Got a little out on a couple. We should be good now.,

42276517891_47f8a9b215_z.jpg

After i did the heads, I moved on to the rockers. I followed the detailed instruction on setting these from "Scruffs Garage" on youtube. Man his channel has so much info! Assembly lube and set it all up. I also used my PAC valve spring tool to see where everything sat. all looked ok..

Afterwards, I added 3 qts of royal Purple break in and Comp Cam Break in to the pan and filled the oil filter. Setting it up to prime the block with my summit oil prime tool.
