78 malibu spindle seal?

Hey guys there is a rubber ring "seal" between the spindle and dust shield. I only had 1 on my car. Is it really nescessary?

For a fair weather only driven car. It would be totally safe to omit it. You can always smear some silicone on to seal it up.

I just made my own out of gasket material

You can make your own or get aftermarket replacements for a GM car (they won't be g-body specific). They are available.
