Ok back w a couple build pics and history- I bought the 78 Monte in October of 2014, original 4 speed(1700 made), from the 3rd owner in south bend, Indiana. The car was mostly original, repainted black from silver outside (burgundy interior). I knew it had some rust in the trunk above the weatherstrip as it was a bondo job. The car ran and looked good from 15 feet. The 305 was, well, a 305- not much power. I planned on just fixing the rust over that winter but once I started on that, I found the rear quarter same side of hole was ALL BONDO- they did a nice job sanding in the lines, but by the time I dealt with that, I had my bro-in-laws heated garage so I thought we could rip it apart, body-off, clean paint and replace a larger engine in about a year- well before the wife would know
... Started the process, got everything apart and body on rotisserie, frame apart.... And then, they decided they were selling their house and I had 90 days!!! So, I worked feverishly getting the new floor pan welded in, got the frame cleaned, powder coated and then went ballistic. UMI Stage 11, strange Eng 3:50 posi, Jody's transmissions m23 high strength(more later) 4 speed so we could get a roller and get the body and the roller to Mitch Mumbower at Relic Restomods for the rebuild... More later, thanks...
