Starting a build thread for the 78’. This is my first project so I guess I’ll learn as I go. 305 or 350, I can’t tell. Turbo 350 transmission. Body is relatively straight. Shaved handles. Car currently doesn’t start because the wiring is all shot. The previous owner seems to have not known much about electrical, as some of the wiring is run with home audio equipment. Ugh. Got it here yesterday and stripped the interior. Floor pans are solid for the most part, small hole in passenger pan, what would you guys reccomend for steel to weld in? More updates soon. ~Ethan

If it's the original V8 it'll be a 305, the only V8 avalible that year (VIN U, 2bbl carb:1Z37U8-------). If swapped it's anyones guess until you check casting & stamped numbers on the block.

Thanks for the reply pagrunt, It was either swapped or the engine was pulled and rebuilt, the block and heads are painted orange, and someone did an A/C delete so it makes me think it might be a 350. Do you know what the difference between the 305 numbers and 350 numbers?

Best to get them off the block then search them as there are multiple numbers for both between cast numbers & stamped codes. You might not even have either. Chevy had 9 different displacements ranging from 265 to 400 during the regular production life of the small block.
