79 Malibu 5.3 swap has officially BEGUN!!!

Whats up guys? I am finally proud to announce that after like 3 months of waiting i finally got my hands on a 5.3 from a guy who claims he builds them. Although he never got his hands into this one. Thought i would have more options but around here your about as likely to find an LS as you are a 350. Everyone keeps beating me to them. This 5.3 i got complete has 128000 miles that i got for $460. He was asking for alot more untill we couldnt find the starter or power steering pump so he brought down the price. I verified that it turns over and it does. It was full of oil. Dark but full. Say what you will but i feel i got a great deal



For some reason my camera didnt save the pics before i tore it down but here it is after i pulled the intake and coil packs off and gave her a cleaning

Edit: Also i will try to update this thread as often as possible because i know alot of people out there like me are nervous about this like i was and i wanna show that anyone can do this

Got the 5.3 taped and painted up nice. It came out really good.

I know i probably shoulda waited to paint the block after i was done with the cam swap but im still waiting on Summit to deliver the cam and valve springs and i needed somthin to do this weekend.

nice! did you pull the oil pan to inspect the crank? but for 460$ you can make it work..

Not yet. Im gonna change my cam the same time i get my muscle car pan so its all gonna be a surprise lol. I hope it looks ok

Are you going with the Holley pan or a CTS pan?

Neither. Gmpp has a direct gbody pan for $150 that comes with pan, pan gasket, pickup, baffle, and dipstick

It will hang too low below the crossmember because it is meant for trucks. Get either the Holley pan or an F-body/CTS-V car-type pan.

Ive seen gbodys with this pan its flush with k member
