79 malibu question

my friend has a 79 malibu an we are tryn to find out wat orignal motor an transmission came in this car....to the transmission info is need because he wnts to put in a 700r4 but wants to know if the car wiring harness has those wires....

79 Malibu's never came with a 700r4 from the factory.

The only Malibu to have a 700r4 from the factory was the 1983 9C1 as an option. A very rare option.

He will need to wire up the trans himself with a kit for the lockup to work.

It is a very easy mod and costs around 75-100 dollars

Or go with a non-lockup converter and not worry about wiring.

thats wat i told him before was to go wit a non lockup converter an he shud b gud....but he didnt want to listen to me...i thought tht only 200r4 an 700 came wit a lockup..but thnks for the info....

But with non lock up a big cooler is a must.

I am also trying to put a 700r4 in my 1981 malibu with a 350/350 small black chevrolet. This is not a race car just a daily driver. The converter is a lock up one and I need to know where to get the kit to be able to wire it up. Also what do I need to know for the throttle linkage and the TV cable to work. Any information on any brackets I might need or infromation would be appreciated.
