im working on a 79 cutlass salon and i found out that the entire driver side rear panel area is completely rusted and painted over. is there any way to fix the body being that this car is a uni-body or is it basically trashed. i have some holes in the frame that can easily be patched but i found this hole in the panel behind the rear wheel. basically the hole is now the size of 2 fists. i dont think there is a way to save it other than getting a new body but thats pretty much out of the option. any ideas one what to do?

Welcome! First these cars are not unibody, they are body on frame. If you can fix the frame you can fix the body by welding on a new quarter panel. If you have to fix the frame and body you may want to see if it's worth fixing at all.
If you find a clean enough car, I believe 78-80 we re the same you could cut out all that you need. I cut a car in half at a pull it yard to get both 1/4s for one project. I cut the back end and roof off of a wagon in a guys yard for my current project. It’s all in finding one nice enough and cutting more than you actually need.
You might want to carefully inspect the frame if the 1/4 panel is that bad,could you post some pictures so we can see it? That might help
Definitely post pics. The way you describe it I can’t tell if your talking about the 1/4 panel or the wheel house, or both.
