8.5 rearend questions

I just purchased a non posi 3.42 8.5 out of a 86 GN. I have a posi 10 bolts out of a 1979 trans ams 323 ratio. Will the posi carrier out of rhe TA rear work in the 86 GN rear end. Not sure if it's a 28 or 30 splines

as long as the trans am rear end is an 8.5, it should work.

or just get a trutrac 30 spline with moser axles... but if you have the parts already then yeah!

Just curious, what is the code stamped on the axle tube ? TP or TJ ? Mine is stamped TJ and has a Posi. Different sites show conflicting info....timo22

Thanks, I guess a posi unit was put in mine by a previous owner. On this site , it lists a 3TJ as a 3:42 posi. On the Gn sites it lists it as an open. timo22

Other than normal backlash adjustment, they should bolt right in.

for the trans am rear end the 2.73 gear ratio and up the carrier is a 3 series.
