hi again everyone.need help,my 350 olds has 350 numbers ingraved near motor mounts.the rebuilt 350 olds i want to buy doesnt have this number stamped in middle of block.the numbers near oil tube is 333555 8 the heads are number 8.the blown motor has b3 near oil filler tube.i dont want to buy 260 engine they all look alike.thank you for help and if you could id this number it would be very helpful 3335558.

I do believe that 333555 was never a casting number on an old motor, unless it was the 350 diesel casting number. #8 heads are junk, they were used from 1973-1976, smog heads with 79cc chambers. Grab a set of #5, 7 or 7A (350 type head, not 307) and work with those. I have a set of 7A heads on my 355, they are fully ported/polished, oversized valves and been shaved to a huge 59cc chamber, engine yields an 11.77:1 compression. That's one example of what you can do to a pair of cast heads, if you're doing a lot of drag racing, grab a set of edelbrock BBO heads and have them modified, there are sets of these for $3k a pair fully ported/polished, race ready.

try looking at the casting number on the block there again, i cant find record of it anywhere.

Check that casting number again. It's sometimes difficult to read due to accumulated crud, and sometimes the cast numbers don't form fully due to flaws in the sand mold. The desireable 1968-1976 350s used casting no. 395558. I'm willing to bet that's what you are looking at. Number 8 heads would be consistent with a 73-76 block. Only the 1977-up Olds motors with the windowed main webs had the displacement cast into the sides of the blocks. The early blocks do not have this.
