Hey everyone,

so long story short , my mom’s first car she bought when she got here from Mexico was a 80 Monte Carlo, ((79 on vin) how would I refer to it ?) Car had been sitting on parents drive way never got fixed rocker arm rod shot throu the motor so it seized the engine ....
Well back in 09’ during my high school year ROP mechanic class started working on it as a project for class to get it running ... well life happen and teenage mentality kicked in and it go pushed out ..... so here we are as of last three weeks started ordering remaining parts to finally getting the car back up ... main focus at this point is to just get car running and start working on body and detail stuff once I can drive it in and out of garage out ... like looking for the hood emblem and fixing the lights .... and learn more from the experience folks on this page

Good to see another Monte being built. The hood ornament is easy to find. That broken front turn signal will not be. It is a one year only deal. Good luck to you.

So it actually doesn’t even have a turn signal , it’s like a cover .... I actually picked up the turn signals on Sunday , wasn’t even looking for them .... I have been looking for the hood ornament but was looking for a used one to go with the car lol

also with that being said is this considered a 79 or 80?

It should be a '80 with the quad lights. With the '79 you said on the VIN makes me think you looked at the Fisher Body plate on the cowl, it has the build date on it so it would be a '79 built '80 (Aug to Dec)

Thats an 80, 78 and 79 had a single headlight on each side. Like mentioned above the turn signal is a one year part for that body style.

It looks like a project, but it's history makes it worth it.

I've got one of those as well- started without a front clip and having to swap the frame.

Keep the faith brother and get r done!!
