Have a 81 elco that had a v6. Was given a free 97 suburban that I’m going to pull out the motor and trans from. I know i have to swap the intake to carb. And i know i have to swap motor mounts. As for the the trans will i need to get a different trans crossmember? And what else would i need?

i did that job this past summer i replaced the crossmember because i wanted to put in duel exhaust you will need a radiator 'fan shroud ' rad hoses' i think the crank pulley' was different some ac brackets ' drive shaft 'throttle cable is shorter on the v6 'it is a stretch on the v8 and of course the exhaust ..there is a article in engine swaps and drivability

You'll need the rubber frame side mounts for any SBC '78-'88 A/G & would suggest these UMI block side mounts.
For the 4L60/TH700R4 get a double hump with the frame extention needed for '83 & older cars. Jegs, Summit, G-Force are good sources.
Now, are you goung to try the sepentine or original V belts? Not sure how well the C/K serpentine set up clears everything with the hood close but this way you'll only have to work with PS & rad hoses. V belts will be easy if you have a 229/3.8 Chevy V6 cause the whole set up bolts right on to include the water pump so you have the right rotation pump. Going to need a V8 fan shroud, SBC or Olds will work. Then you need a V8 radiator too.
If the block isn't set up to use a mechanical fuel pump an electric one is needed. The 4L60 may need a controler since you wound use the computer from the truck. The intake will have to be for a Vortec as those heads have a different bolting set up that the older SBC's.
Those Vortec exhaust manifolds both are like mirrored & have rear dumps. They should be swapped for an older set like what was used which would have the correct driver side bottom dump or headers.
One good thing even if they aren't the best "performance" gears for what there was for '81 is having a 2.73 rear which V6 El Caminos came with wich is better than the 2.41 or 2.29 rears that could of been under it.
